The class will be spaced over 3 days 2 x 6 hours and 1x 2 hour optional class. You will be guaranteed to have the best time ever- learning, lounging, laughing and being lazy- away from work!!! See cruise description for all the information regarding days at sea activities and on land excursions.

This course is designed to explore current treatment concepts for the hand and upper extremity, using concepts of Alison Taylor, Kinesio Taping, Mobilization with Motion “MWM”, Dermo Neuro Modulation and IASTM.
This course will explore different treatment options for common finger, hand and wrist diagnoses as well as go up a bit higher to the elbow. It will teach you how to treat without pain and assess the patient from the perspective of the 4 S’s- Skin, Scar, Sensation and Swelling.
Discussion and demonstration will be provided to integrate all concepts and a new interactive breakdown of videos will be introduced with problem solving sessions.
Outside the box thinking, including, joint positioning and alignment, Kinesio taping, and skin and fascial mobilization all be demonstrated.
There will also be lab time which will allow participants to gain a hands-on knowledge of how these techniques can assist with UE rehab.
Objectives:
Participants will gain a knowledge of all the concepts presented, and how they relate to the practice of Hand Therapy. They will be immediately able to apply these concepts on patients with success.
1. Determine how the 4 S’s (Skin, Scar, Sensation and Swelling) contribute to pain in the UE.
2. Understanding of how muscle imbalance and alignment can contribute to pain in the UE
3. Utilize manual and soft tissue techniques to improve patient outcomes
4. Understanding the philosophy of and basic concepts of Taping and MWM
5. Learn basic Joint positioning and corrections to reduce pain in common diagnoses.
6. Pick up some “ PEARLS” for treating without pain
Audience:
This is a highly intensive course targeted for CHT/OT/PT/COTA/PTA with a current knowledge of all hand to shoulder conditions. The level is intermediate to advanced

OUTLINE FOR CRUISE
FEB 2024
Session 1: 6 hours
1 hour: Review of basic and advanced concepts
1 hour: Treating the Fingers.
1 hour: Treating the Thumb.
1 hour: Treating the Hand.
1 hour: Treating the Wrist.
45 min: Treating trauma and the amputee.
15 min: Wrap up questions- demos and pulling together concepts.
Optional day: 2 hours
Video reviews- submission of videos from participants.
Break down and review.
Treatment ideas and demonstration.
Session 2: 6 Hours
1 Hour: Treating the Lateral Elbow.
1 hour: Treating the Medial Elbow.
1 hour: Treating elbow Fractures.
1 hour: Treating the Shoulder.
1 hour: Pulling it all together.
1 hour: Questions and wrap up- demo/ discussion.
REFUNDS AND CANCELLATIONS: related to course fees only.
If you are unable to attend, a refund of 75% of your registration fee will be given if you provide notice 2 or more weeks prior to the start of the class. You may opt to have your payment transferred to a future class.( Land courses are a higher price) Refunds given within 2 weeks of the start of the class are on a case by case assessment
